The ABCI is the credentialing agency that coordinates the quality of education material, grading examinations, and credetialing process. 


Advances the quality of clinical competency for doctors of chiropractic specializing in diagnosis and treatment of internal disorders through certification and recertification of those doctors who demonstrate excellence in the chiropractic internist practice.

The ABCI shall promote the advancement of chiropractic internal medicine by identifying to professionals and the public those chiropractors who have voluntarily sought and obtained certification in chiropractic internal medicine.

Candidate testing for Part I, Part II, and Part III of the board examination is held:


4th weekend of April
3rd weekend of October


Continuing Education

Diplomates of the American Board of Chiropractic Internists must attend twelve (12) hours of ABCI approved education every year to maintain their certification. This course material must be in the field of diagnosis and treatment of internal disorders. Courses and seminars that have gone through the approval process are posted on this website. If a course does not appear on the list and it is felt by a DABCI that it should be approved, please contact the Secretary of the ABCI to receive information on the approval process.

At least every other year the educational hours must be met by attending the ABCI approved CDID Symposium.

ABCI Examinations

The ABCI offers testing two times per year for the diplomate boards. Part I of the ABCI Examination may be taken if the Candidate is within six (6) months of completing the postgraduate course work.

Part I and Part II are written examinations each comprising five (5) separate sections. Part III is a combination of oral and practical examinations that include diagnostic test and laboratory interpretation, case analysis, and demonstration of proficiency in physical examination procedures.

Subject material for Part I and Part II includes

Part I:

•            Blood Chemistry

•            Cardiovascular disorders

•            Female disorders

•            Hair Mineral analysis

•            History and Physical examination

•            Nephropathies

•            Pharmacognosy

 

Part II:

•            Allergy and Ecological disorders

•            Gastrointestinal disorders

•            Geriatrics

•            Neoplastic disease and AIDS

•            Pediatrics

•            Pulmonary disorders

•            Spirometry

•            Vascular disorders

Candidate Qualification

For a Candidate to qualify to sit the ABCI Examination, he/she must:

•            hold a Doctor of Chiropractic (D.C.) degree from a C.C.E. accredited college of chiropractic,

•            have successfully completed an ABCI approved 300 hour postgraduate program in diagnosis and internal disorders from a C.C.E. accredited chiropractic college,

•            have successfully passed all course module examinations with a minimum score of 80%, and

•            have a minimum of two and one half (2 ½) years practice experience.

 SPECIAL EXAMINATION DATE - Spring 2010

The April Examination date will be 4/17 - 4/18/2010.  This change is due to scheduling problems and is only for this particular examination.

Regular Examinations:

4th weekend in April and 3rd weekend in October

Examinations are held at NUHS in Lombard, IL
